About the project
The Department of Art-Historical Topography of the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, which is the guarantor of the project Art Monuments / Architectural Manual / Prague (AM/AM/PRAGUE), has long been engaged in inventory activities focused on architecture and other artistic monuments and publishes a series of book encyclopaedias Art Monuments. Within these activities, the aim of the project is to create an architectural manual as an open, publicly accessible web source of professionally processed information on architecture, which would publicize many years of professional research and at the same time become a professional but also popularizing tool for learning about the architectural heritage of the whole country, in this first phase of Prague, more precisely the city districts - Prague 3 and Prague 7.
The project is based on the already tried and tested Brno Architectural Manual (BAM) and its follow-up manuals, from which it differs in that the database is designed as a two-layered database: the first layer is popularly educational with basic data on buildings, works of art or public spaces, it is intended for the general public and is also available in English. For those interested in more detailed information on the objects, there is the possibility to view more detailed data including references to literature, sources - an updated version of the already published texts from the books.
